I don't come from a musical family, so it happened by chance that my sister and I began to play a musical instrument. I started playing the flute at the age of 11, in the middle school. We had a little orchestra composed only by flutes, classic guitars, violins, some percussions and piano. Surely not an usual orchestra, but it was fun! So we had orchestra lessons and individual lessons.
Since the first time I heard my…

I come from a musical family so everyone is expected to learn an instrument and be able to read music regardless of if they want to perform or not. I started out on several different instruments over the years and played to varying levels of skill but flute was the one I picked myself and it stuck. My parents have always loved classical music. They exposed me and my sister to many concerts when were very young. Although my parents were not given the opportunity to pursue music as children they wanted their children to have the chance to do so.
We both started out on the violin.
My sister had a two-year head start on the violin because she is six years older than I am. When I was allowed to start…

Thanks for your invite. Thanks for sharing your site information. I am a student composer as well and am always looking for musicians to perform some of my music.

i have played the flute for about 6-7 months now but feel i am advancing quickly. i was wondering if you have any resources for blues runs - you know like 32th beat type runs from high to low - are they called trills? :S
i dont know anyone else who plays flute :(
i am from the uk - midlands area and i cant find anyone, so any help would be great as i am doing the work of my own back and dont really have anyone to bounce off.
oh yeah and my theory is great so if you want to point me in the direction of sheet music this will be fine.
