nice work on the site! haven't found anywhere else like it!
i have played the flute for about 6-7 months now but feel i am advancing quickly. i was wondering if you have any resources for blues runs - you know like 32th beat type runs from high to low - are they called trills? :S

i dont know anyone else who plays flute :(
i am from the uk - midlands area and i cant find anyone, so any help would be great as i am doing the work of my own back and dont really have anyone to bounce off.
oh yeah and my theory is great so if you want to point me in the direction of sheet music this will be fine.

So very greatly appreciated.

How did you get started playing the Flute?

I don't come from a musical family, so it happened by chance that my sister and I began to play a musical instrument. I started playing the flute at the age of 11, in the middle school. We had a little orchestra composed only by flutes, classic guitars, violins, some percussions and piano. Surely not an usual orchestra, but it was fun! So we had orchestra lessons and individual lessons.

Since the first time I heard my…

What was your path in becoming a professional musician?

Gwyneth Whistlewood

I come from a musical family so everyone is expected to learn an instrument and be able to read music regardless of if they want to perform or not. I started out on several different instruments over the years and played to varying levels of skill but flute was the one I picked myself and it stuck. Visiting the conservatory when deciding on colleges was like walking into a permanent band camp and it was a done…

What was your path to becoming a professional jazz musician?

Bill McBirnie Although I was a serious classical flutist (with performance-career-potential by the time I was in high school), I did not continue with the flute and took a degree in commerce and finance (at the University of Toronto) instead before going on to a career in accounting.  However, I found that I wasn't entirely happy with the choice I had made.  So, after a year or so, I started practicing again (which improved my… Continue

What was your path in becoming a professional musician?

Ali I was not born into a family of musicians, but as a kid I developed an interest in playing music through the band program in my public schools. About halfway through high school I began to really discover classical music - pretty late compared to most professional musicians! But the more I heard, the more passionate about it I became, and I decided to study the flute seriously. I found a local teacher, began…

What was your path in becoming a professional musician?

Naomi My parents have always loved classical music. They exposed me and my sister to many concerts when were very young. Although my parents were not given the opportunity to pursue music as children they wanted their children to have the chance to do so.

We both started out on the violin.

My sister had a two-year head start on the violin because she is six years older than I am. When I was allowed to start…
