Need help with playing the flute
Hello, Since i had a flute on my table i haven't touched in ages i had a sudden urge to play it for some reason. So i just started today. Im a Newbie but im getting the hang of it. I just want to learn to read the notes. To me it looks really difficult. I don't know if i can do it. I basically started with the song "Silent Night" Since its easy. I got the hang of it but sometimes I get off tone. I just need some really got advice ot techniques you have for me because i really need to learn how to read notes to understand my flute better. I can tell that alot of diligence is needed. My flute is white and im pretty sure its a suprano and End- blow. Im trying to learn what i can and i really need to learn to read flute notes! :D Please help me! And REPY Please!!

To keep from getting off tone you can try practicing long tones. Just start on the note that you think you have the best tone on and then work your way chromaticall up and down, not moving until you make each note sound as good as the first one. You also can try dropping your jaw and playing with your diaphragm.

hi i just started playing about a year ago and ditto what Garrett has said about the tone...good warming up helps me with long notes and i try doing this with the various scales getting each note as good as i can can and for as long as i can. practice making sure your using your diaphragm. i have taught myself so far using books with cd and these work throught each note with pieces to practice this has helped me enormously with sight reading...hope this helps can not offer much as still a beginner. one of the best advices i have had is practice is good but do not do so many exercises it stops you from your love of playing so i have found doing good warm up practice pieces and learn pieces i would like to play and then i find where i need to exercise and practice it all goes in aloop really. i think any way and everyone is different.

Oh i see. That you for replying now i understand much better now. I never warm up lol. I just go straight to the tone. Do you know how to read flute notes?

well im not sure how to tell you how to read flute notes but the higher they are on the bars the louder they are and the lower they are on the bars the lower they are. XD see i didnt know that and i kept playing low notes haha

my husband says that music notes are like fleas on the paper and spends most of the time trying to brush them off!!! ha ha he plays the guitar and can not read music...but very talented...i recommend you learn to read music....he he
