I am in the market to buy a professional series flute, and really had my heart set on a Gemeinhardt KG Millennium Limited.  However, a friend of mine that works at a music store says that it would be a really bad idea because they have quality issues.  I can't find a lot of information online about this, so I was wondering if y'all had any opinions, or other info.  I had a Gemeinhardt in high school, and I loved it.  I know that Yamaha makes great flutes, and I'm not against going with a 600 series, but I tend to be a little brand-faithful with the Gemeinhardts.

hi i have never had a problem with Gemeinhardts . i have been playing them science 1974. i have 2 flutes( an open hole with a b foot and a student model) and a picclo by them
I have heard this as well, although my second flute was a Gemeinhardt. A lot of people do knock their quality and I'm not sure there is any reason behind it. The most important thing to do when purchasing a professional flute is to try them out. Most dealers will allow people to check out their flutes for a week (or so). When I got my most recent flute I took three models home and they all sounded, played and felt different.
Hi Melissa, i've got Gemeinhardt as a present several years ago,but was not playing much. Before i had other flutes, simple russian production.
Now i pick it up again playing, and i don't know if it is to do with me or with the flute, but it works horrible! I even let it be tuned, checked and repaired as i thought it will help. But i have great difficulty with making the high notes, somewhere after C of 3rd octave... I don't remember i had so much difficulty with my old flutes...

I have found that in my MANY years of teaching the Gemeinhardts are unreliable on tone issues!

VERY VERY AIRY some of them - so I do not recommend them AT ALL because my students are

so airy on them - My students have sounded MUCH better on Trevor James in the last 10 years -

some great sounds, but there is some transitioning in the company so do not know if this will affect

quality of the Trevor James - I used Yamaha for years, but then flipped to Trevor James because of the sound quality.
